Scholastic Art And Writing 2016 Winners
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards have recognized the creative ingenuity of our nation's youth since 1923. Each year, students from grades 7–12 submit their work in 29 categories of art and writing for a chance to be recognized through exhibitions, publications, and scholarships. Selection begins at the local level in which students from every county in Colorado are able to submit work for review by an esteemed panel of jurors. Students are selected for an array of awards, and the work of Gold Key recipients is forwarded to the national competition.
The showcase at the Denver Art Museum highlights over 100 artworks selected from all Colorado's Key winners or honorable mentions. A wide variety of art mediums are displayed including painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, metals, photography, digital arts and fibers. Powerful messages are communicated by these young artists about social injustice, psychological experience, clever humor, and imagination. Each artist shows extraordinary technical skill and an awareness for the compositional elements that successfully communicate the concept of their work.
The showcase will be on display from March 24–April 15 in the Lower Level of the North Building. On Friday, April 15, students, families and teachers will attend a luncheon celebration with an introduction by Christoph Heinrich, Frederick and Jan Mayer Director, and remarks by artist Gregg Deal. Awards and honors also will be distributed to further recognize the talent of these emerging artists. Congratulations to all students who submitted their works to this prestigious event!
Entry to the showcase is free; admission to the rest of the museum requires a ticket.
